If we are not actively building our AI systems to be antifragile, why are we using AI systems at all?

Preparing AI for the unexpected: Lessons from recent IT incidents
Can your AI models survive a big disaster? While a recent major IT incident with CrowdStrike wasn't AI related, the magnitude and reaction reminded us that no system no matter how proven is immune to failure.
Unmonitored AI can amplify biases and create security risks. To mitigate this, align AI strategies with governance, ensure responsible use, and leverage AI strategically. The added risks of shadow generative AI are specific and tangible and can threaten organizations’ integrity and security. Unmonitored AI tools can lead to decisions or actions that undermine regulatory and corporate compliance measures, particularly in sectors where data handling and processing are tightly regulated, such as finance and healthcare.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has already impacted all industries and sectors, but the United States still lacks uniform nationwide rules on how all companies process personal information for algorithmic development and deployment. Congress has considered updating U.S. commercial data privacy standards with varying degrees of momentum for over a decade now, with increased activity around the Obama administration’s 2012 Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights and the 2018 Cambridge Analytica revelations. Now, the recent acceleration of AI development should also similarly spur discussion around privacy safeguards, particularly as major technology companies amend their user agreements to explicitly permit the scraping of personal information to train algorithms.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming industries across the board as leaders recognize the technology's potential to improve productivity, enhance creativity, boost quality, and generate new solutions. This has created a surge in demand for AI, and in particular, generative AI. However, along with AI's potential value, leaders are also concerned about its risks, including bias, safety, security, and loss of reputation if something goes wrong.
Statistics Canada recently released a detailed report estimating which professions are likely to be affected by artificial intelligence in the next few years.
It concludes with an optimistic message for education and healthcare professionals, suggesting that not only are they expected to retain their jobs, but their productivity will be enhanced by AI advancements. However, the outlook is grimmer for those in finance, insurance, information and cultural industries, who are predicted to see their careers derailed by AI. What Statistics Canada offers here is a relatively meaningless exercise. It assumes that it is the technology itself and how well it complements human efforts, not the business models designed to undermine our shared humanity, that is the key determinant. By making this mistake, the report is yet another casualty of buying into corporate-driven optimism at the expense of uglier business realities.
